Sanibel Island is one of my favorite places to vacation during the summer. It is a small island that rests off the Florida coast of Ft. Myers which is filled with amial refuges, beatuiful shelly beaches, and amazing food. Love boat Ice cream is a fabulous little ice cream parlor next to Jerry's, one of the few charming grocery stores on the island. There are quite possible over 40 different choices of ice cream flavors to choose from, so it is perfect or those families that can never seem to agree on anything like mine.
Now, about the ice cream.

The ice cream and it's flavors was quite wonderful. It tasted and looked very milky and less icy, but it wasn't as thick as custard. It was great because I do not really like the thinkness and overly rich taste of custard. The negative thing about this is it seemed to melt extremely fast, faster than most ice creams. That is not a big problem, but the portion size was huge. I was half way done when it transformed into a liquidy shake.
Creaminess gets a score of
9.
Cookie dough also receives a
9. The mammoth sized chunks were marvelous. They were large enough to stick in the oven and bake into full sized cookies. This being said, there was not a large amount. I would rather have a ton of smaller chunks of the incredible cookie dough, enough for a couple of pieces in each bite, contrary to having a lot of cookie dough in one bite and none in the next. Other than that, the Love Boat mastered the art of cookie dough in ice cream unlike a lot of other ice cream brands and places.
Miscellaneous gets a
7. The chocolate chips were good, but they were pretty dark. That is why they took forever to melt in my mouth. This isn't uncommon. Most baking and desserts contain dark chocolate rather than milk chocolate, so I expected it. I wish this wasn't the case. Even though the chocolate chips was surrounded by a cold substance, I still expected the chips to melt in my mouth with the ice cream. I do not like having to chew the chips after all my scrumptious ice cream is melted away. With all this in mind, overall taste gets a solid score of 8. The creaminess plus the large chunks of cookie dough were unquestionably terrific. The chocolate chips on the other hand brought down the score. The prince for a small was five dollars. This contained three rather generous scoops of ice cream. For just one dollar more, I could get double. That's just what I did; of course, I did share a little with Rachel. :) The
price was expected because of the location, everything on the island is fairly pricy, and the yumminess, but anyone just wanting to go out and get a little treat such as the classic cookie dough ice cream might think of the cost as too much. I understand completely. I give the large a score of 5 because it was quite a lot, but the small would get a 4. A
4.5 is a good average for the Love Boat. The overall score is
37.5.
I have determined that I would go back to the Love Boat. The thing is that on Sanibel, there are many cute ice cream places like Joey's custard, Pinocchio's, and Schnapper's Hots. How does this place compare to other places on Sanibel? I'll have to find out!
